Pancakes
I awoke before my wife, a crisp Sunday morning, sun shining, birds singing. I walked downstairs into the kitchen to prepare my loves most prized thing on the planet (apart from me of course) pancakes. As I was pouring the creamy gooey batter into the hot sizzling pan, my wife stepped into the room, so peacefully, so full of life, as if she was an angel. She has the power to light up any room she walks in, all with just a cheesy bright smile. Today was a special day, it marked 45 years of hard work and persistence, marriage.
A wonderful and fascinating thing marriage, how you can wake up next to someone in the same bed, the same house, the same time every day for your whole life.
My wife was particularly bright and glowing this morning, as she had a special day planned.
You see, me and my wife used to always go on crazy and thrilling adventures together, we adored the daunting feeling on being on the brisk of death, but nothing mattered when we were together.
She booked and planned a trip to go paragliding through the cold brisk air of Switzerland. I was ecstatic, not only to fly through the air but to fly through the air with my beloved wife.
We quickly ate our pancakes and rushed to the airport with gleaming smiles on our faces and springs in our feet. Purely filled with love and excitement.
We arrived.
Fast forward and hour or two travelling to the venue, we were there, standing on the edge of the golden wooden platform with our tip toes slightly hanging off the edge. I was beginning to have cold feet, becoming slightly scared, but my wife, nothing but happiness. So, I shook my head and brushed it off. As the adrenaline rushed through our bodies like electric waves bouncing backwards and forwards, we lept.
Soaring through the freezing winds, our arms stretched out widely, proudly, and still, she has the biggest smile on her face. We just flew, and flew, for hours it felt like.
*Echoed beeping sound fading in*
I awoke in the same bed, the same house, at the same time, just this time, a missing piece.
She’s still flying, higher than ever.
